Cubic boron nitride is formed by hexagonal boron nitride powders under high temperature and pressure. It has excellent properties such as high hardness, thermal stability, and chemical inertness. It is the second hardest material next to diamond,making it useful for cutting and abrasion of metals and other substances.
CBN used in industrial cutting tools is called polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN). PCBN is produced by sintering cubic boron nitride particles with ceramics.
